I’m so excited to share Suraya’s Halloween costume with everyone!! I took pictures after school yesterday, but it was on the gloomy side. I was going to wait until today, but yesterday’s weather forecast showed it will be raining for the next few days which means I might not be able to share her costume until next week! I can’t wait until next week!! So I decided to just go for it and took pictures:D
Um, can you figure out what she’s going to be for Halloween this year? :) I think that’s all I’ll share for today. Is that ok? Oh, I’m just teasing! You really think with all this excitement I wouldn’t show you the entire outfit?! Hehe
Other than it being a bit gloomy, it was kinda windy as well. I had to ask Suraya to hold the poodle side of the skirt so you can see that cute applique.
Here’s a close up of the poodle…
I just kept snapping pictures and told Suraya to have fun and pose however she wanted… she is becoming an expert at modeling, ya know! ;)
It looks like she was doing the twist here, doesn’t it? LOL! But I don’t think she was. Doesn’t matter as long as she was having fun! She is really excited about her costume, can’t you tell?! She wants to know what lingo people used in the 50′s. She doesn’t want to just dress the part, she wants to talk the talk too! Better get moving and go do my homework and find her some phrases to use:D Let me know if you have any!
I used McCall’s pattern 6101 to make the skirt. It includes a petticoat under the skirt to add some poof to the skirt…but I tripled the layers of netting. The one layer that the pattern asked for didn’t do anything for the skirt. Also a warning, the sizing on the pattern is inaccurate. I needed a size 7/8 for Suraya, which was HUGE on her! It was more like an adult size skirt! So I took it in by a lot and had to shorten it as well. For the belt I just used a 3″ black elastic and added pearl-like snap buttons. That last button didn’t line up properly, and I couldn’t take it off to adjust it:( You better believe I was annoyed! But once I saw the overall outfit, all was forgotten!
Hope you like Suraya’s costume as much as we do:)
Now, go get your candy ready for a 50′s girl may come a knockin’ and a rockin’ and a twistin’ at your door!

It was so cute on her!

It came out so cute. I love the way you did your poodle. I actually just made the SAME skirt for my 8 year old daughter too. But just used black felt for the poodle. I also had the same problem with the skirt size. My daughter is already pretty little in size so I actually ended up making the smallest size:) I do want to know where you got those glasses. I didn’t even think about finding those. They are awesome:) If you get this in time, would you mind emailing me and letting me know where you got them? I would really appreciate it. And if you don’t, that is no problem. But just thought it would be fun for her to wear:)
