About a couple years ago I came across two shops on Etsy that had the cutest art prints ever! I first came across Tim’s Sally as I was searching something related to Strawberry Shortcake (I don’t recall what it was exactly). I LOVE the original Strawberry Shortcake. I received my first baby Shortcake on my sixth birthday. I still have her! Another fave doll I had was my Rainbow Bright which I received on my eighth birthday. I still have her too! Those two dolls were amongst Mindy’s from Tim’s Sally faves as well:) If you check out her shop, you will see that she does have prints of Strawberry Shortcake and her pals. All of the prints she sells are of her own paintings. I love the way she captures her characters in a whimsical way that brings back memories of my own childhood. Not only that, there is so much inspiration in her art! In 2010, her work was featured on the front cover of Somerset Studio magazine. I was at Joann’s checking out when I saw it. I was so excited to recognize that it was hers…not that it is hard to recognize her paintings since they are very unique to Mindy.

As some may already know, cake decorating was the beginning of my crafting journey. My main focus was cake decorating, so anything “cake” would catch my attention (or cupcake since that falls in the same category:)). One day as I was browsing Tim’s Sally Etsy shop, I came across this print….

It reminded me of myself baking away some cupcakes in my little kitchen, so I just had to buy it! Also, I had thought to myself, if I were to get my own little bakery, it would be a cute addition to the decor (that was my plans at that time:D). I did purchase it and along with it came three complimentary prints. Of course I loved those prints as well. I haven’t had the chance to do a proper framing for these prints until recently, except the one I purchased. I’ll show you in a moment what I came up with.

The next artist I want to introduce you to is Missy from Boopsiedaisy. I’m going to describe her art exactly as she does: cute and kitschy! The vibrant colors and out of this world images are sure to grab your attention folks! And the cute titles she gives them will make you smile. Just check her out! This is what caught my eye (amongst several others):

These three images all about cake! The first image is called “Strawberry Shortcake”; the second is “Patty Cake”; and third is “The Girl With the Most Cake. Missy also did send me some cute complimentary prints as well. As with Mindy’s work, Missy’s art is also full of inspiration. Just look at those colors!

Are you now ready to see how I went about “framing” them? I honestly was going to go the route of simple white frames which I did buy (and now need to return!). But I don’t think it would have served them justice. I do hope that what I have done does.

In my previous post I had told you about my bargain purchase of a 40 piece assorted wood set (I think it was actually 38) that I had purchased from Hobby Lobby for $3.59. Well I used some of these pieces to make my own plaques.

For Tim’s Sally’s prints, the plaques started out with these three pieces.

I first painted them and then glued the pieces to each other with Gorilla glue.

Once the glue was completely dry, I Mod Podged the prints onto the plaques. Before putting the first top coat, I stamped their phrases on the side of each picture. More stamping! If you read my previous post, you already know about my stamping craze:P Don’t be surprised if you see more!

I didn’t come up with these phrases, they are Mindy’s titles for each print. They were just perfect! These are two of the complimentary prints she sent me. I didn’t have wood pieces that made a proper size plaque for the one I purchased. I will be sure to share it when I do come up with a way to frame it:)

“Growing Faith”.

“Free to Fly”.

With the remaining large rectangle piece and the three smaller rectangle pieces, I came up with this for Missy’s prints…

I gave this set the title “More Than a Piece of Cake”. This phrase has a couple of meanings to me which I will leave it to you to decipher;)

These three pieces will be going up in my craft room. Well I don’t have a craft room yet, but I’m working on it. Back in a November post I had told you that I was organizing my craft space. Well, that project has been going slowly for one reason: I plan on having a craft room! We have a third room that my husband is holding hostage (that’s what I call it:P). It was supposed to be his office but it has turned into a storage room. What a waste of space I say! So I have asked him to clear out his stuff because I’m taking over! Don’t I deserve it? So far not much progress, but it shall happen I tell you! I will keep you posted:D

That’s all for today ya’ll! I hope you enjoyed today’s project. See you in the next post.

As always, partying over here!
