Chalkboard Pencil Holders, Children, Crafts, DIY, No. 2 Pretzel Pencils, Teacher Appreciation Week
Monday I showed you how to make No. 2 pretzel pencils. Today I’m going to share with you how I’ve decided to package them. After contemplating on a couple of ideas, I decided to go with a “pencil holder” after seeing this wonderful idea over at the Rachel Berry Blog which I also shared with you in the previous post. I really loved the wording and design that was used for Rachel’s pencil holders, but I had planned on giving one to the teacher’s aide as well. I wanted to keep the pencil holders unified. Keeping it simple, I went the chalkboard vinyl route.
I found these small vases at the Dollar Tree. I removed the labels from the bottom and washed them out.. they were full of debris.
I grabbed my chalkboard vinyl and put my Silhouette to work to cut out a little fancified chalkboard. Of course, you can use a puncher, shape them yourself, or just cut out rectangles. Really, whatever your heart desires;) I wrote the word pencils on with chalk. Now of course, you can write whatever you want on your little challkboard… maybe you want to write the teacher’s name instead or her monogram. Whatever makes you happy! There are no rules.. just as simple as that!
Next up…
I thought it would be cute to include a little piece of chalk just to let the teacher know she can write anything she wants on her little chalkboard pencil holder. I gathered some things I had on hand: brown lunch bag, translucent paper, alphabet stamps, pinking shears, hole puncher, and twine. Out of this I was going to make a little pouch to go around the pencil holders.
With my pinking shears, I cut out small rectangle pieces (about 2″x3″) out of the lunch bag and the translucent paper and sewed them together. Stamped “Thank You!” and punched a hole on top. My little pouch was read to go.
I placed the piece of chalk inside the pouch and around the pencil holder it went! Pencils and pencil holders are all done:)
As you can see, I decided to package each “pencil” individually in it’s own pretzel bag. Suraya will be making something for her teacher and teacher aide, so I will be creating a little basket with these and what Suraya makes. Up next will be Suraya’s project, so be sure to come back!

Looks great (as always) and I love that the teacher will be able to change the label to reflect whatever she wants to store in the vase after the pretzels are all gone. Unless of course she’ll use it for pencils and then the work has already been done for her. Can’t wait to see Suraya’s project!
